Accused falls into well while trying to steal, arrested after rescue

Kerala: In an incident reported from Thiruvananthapuram, an attempted theft in the Koyilandy area of Kozhikode district took a sudden turn when a suspect fell into a well while trying to enter a house. The incident has become a topic of discussion locally.
According to reports, the accused has been identified as 26-year-old Augustine Birla from Assam. He was allegedly trying to break into Kunjabdulla’s house in the Nandi Bazaar area. He reportedly attempted to enter the house through the bathroom.
During the incident, as the accused tried to cross the grill in the bathroom area, it suddenly broke. Losing his balance, he fell straight into the well located in the house premises. Due to the depth of the well, he was unable to get out.
The incident came to light the next morning when the homeowner’s wife heard strange noises coming from the direction of the well. Suspicious, they went to investigate and found a man hanging from a pipe inside the well, trying to climb out.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the family immediately informed the police and fire department. Police and fire teams arrived at the scene and began rescue operations. A careful operation led to the accused’s safe evacuation.
After the rescue, the accused’s condition was assessed. He was initially found to be uninjured. However, as a precaution, he underwent a medical check-up. Police subsequently took him into custody.
According to the police, a case has been registered against the accused for attempted theft and trespassing. Further investigation is underway, and the accused is being questioned.
According to locals, this incident was unusual because the attempted theft suddenly turned into an accident. People nearby also expressed surprise at the incident.
Police officials say that security surveillance will be increased in the area to prevent similar incidents. They have also advised the public to remain vigilant.
