According to IMD: Amid heavy rains in Mumbai and its neighbouring districts Thane, Palghar and Raigad, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert (extremely heavy rainfall) for the ghat areas of central Maharashtra till July 16. The Mumbai Regional Meteorological Centre in its five-day forecast has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts on Saturday and Sunday. According to the IMD report, extremely heavy rains are likely over Konkan and Goa till July 16; coastal Karnataka and south interior Karnataka from July 14 to 15; Gujarat region till July 16; Saurashtra and Kutch on July 16 and 17. The monsoon trough is in its normal position and extends up to the lower tropospheric level. It is likely to move southwards from its normal position from Sunday. The coastal trough runs along the coasts of Maharashtra and north Kerala at mean sea level. A cyclonic circulation lies over lower and mid-tropospheric levels over north Gujarat and another cyclonic circulation lies over west-central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast at mid-tropospheric levels.
