AAP’s claim is hollow, recalling MLAs is not possible: Punjab Congress

Punjab: The Punjab Congress has strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for its recent announcement to recall some MLAs. The Congress stated that this move is merely political drama and that recalling MLAs is not possible under the Constitution and rules. Senior state Congress leaders, speaking to the media, stated that AAP’s move is merely an attempt to mislead the public and increase its support in the election environment. They alleged that such announcements are nothing more than political maneuvering and are detrimental to Punjab’s democracy and the dignity of the Assembly.

A Congress spokesperson stated, “Recalling MLAs is not constitutionally possible. There is no legal provision for terminating their membership or recalling them. This drama by AAP is merely an attempt to influence the media and the public.” Political experts believe that this issue is sensitive to the stability and party balance of the Punjab Assembly. If an attempt is made to recall the MLAs, it will only lead to political controversy and legal complications. Congress clarified that it will strongly oppose any such attempt and will take steps to protect its numbers and rights in the Assembly.
The AAP leadership recently announced the recall of MLAs, which it presented as a demonstration of party unity and organizational strength. However, Congress believes this is merely a show of force and lacks any concrete action or legal basis. Congress also stated that the people of Punjab are intelligent and can recognize political theatrics. The party appealed to AAP to avoid such political maneuvering and focus on real issues, such as education, health, and addressing farmers’ problems. Political analysts say that such statements and announcements in Punjab are part of an election strategy. However, when their actual impact on the Constitution and rules is felt, they are merely cosmetic. Congress maintains that AAP’s move is solely for electoral gain and will not impact the working environment in the Assembly. They stressed that the party will take every possible step to maintain democracy and the dignity of the legislatures.
