Ludhiana: A massive fire broke out in a cardboard factory in Sherpur Khurd, where machinery and goods were burnt to ashes, the building also suffered heavy damage. In the morning, people in the street next to the factory started shouting after seeing the fire and smoke. The shift had not started yet when the contractor also reached the spot and he tried to control the fire with fire extinguishers along with the workers but was unsuccessful. The fire spread rapidly inside the factory. After that it reached the upper floor.
The contractor etc. informed the factory owners about the fire, who informed the fire department and left for the factory. Owner Ajay Gambhir said that he has a cardboard factory named Twins Polypack, Vijay Gambhir’s GD Enterprises and Aaradya Creation in Sherpur Khurd where cardboard boxes and other materials etc. are prepared. He got a call from the contractor around 8.30 am that there is a fire in the factory. His attempt to control the fire failed and all the labour came out. During this time, a dozen fire brigade vehicles reached the spot. The fire was so fierce that the entire area was filled with clouds of black smoke. Seeing the danger, the nearby factories also closed their factories.
