Hyderabad: Young man dies while performing bike stunt for reel

Hyderabad: The Instagram reels craze claimed the life of a youth and left another seriously injured in Hayat Nagar on the outskirts of Hyderabad, police said on Sunday. A youth performing stunts on a motorcycle with his friend met with an accident on the national highway near Pedda Amberpet under the limits of Hayat Nagar police station of Rachakonda police commissionerate. The youth was performing stunts on the sports bike for Instagram reels. However, he lost control and both of them fell, causing serious injuries. They were admitted to a private hospital. Shiva, who was riding pillion and was not wearing a helmet, succumbed on Sunday.
The road was wet due to rain and it is suspected that the bike skidded, leading to the accident. Many youngsters on motorcycles are seen performing stunts on busy roads in and around Hyderabad. Some perform stunts not for the thrill but to get more ‘likes’ by posting them on social media. They perform risky stunts on their high-end motorcycles on the wide roads of the IT corridor and highways around the city. Bike stunts are a common sight at night in Hitech City, Gachibowli and other parts of the IT corridor. Youths also indulge in bike racing on roads around Hussain Sagar in the heart of the city. Citizens say that despite repeated warnings and action taken by the police in all three police commissionerates, the problem persists, endangering the lives of other road users and causing noise pollution.
