Chandigarh: Sweet milk will be served to more than 1 lakh students
Chandigarh: Around 1,08,000 student beneficiaries of local 121 government schools will now get sweetened milk once a week in addition to their lunch. Sweetened milk (130 ml with 3 per cent fat content in tetra packs) will be given to students from pre-primary to class 8 studying in government schools. For this, tenders were invited last year from government cooperative milk unions, government cooperative milk societies and apex state milk federations on an advance deposit of Rs 12,96,000. According to the tender, the company has to supply flavored milk in 130-150 ml tetra fino packs along with transportation to government and government-aided schools and madrasas under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Yojana for the session 2023-24. The department had also released the same scheme in 2019. Director of School Education Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar said that the officials are keen to provide nutritious food to the students. He said, “It is the department’s mission to ensure that the nutritional needs of school children are met through great meals. This helps increase daily attendance as children are excited about the meals.”
