Fraud: 16 lakh rupees defrauded in the name of sending abroad

Kurukshetra: Police have arrested an accused in a case of fraud of Rs 16 lakh in the name of sending him to America a year ago. Accused Nikhil Pahwa, resident of Ladwa, had lured the complainant to send him to America for Rs 40 lakh, but the accused sent him to Tanzania.

In a complaint lodged in Ladwa police station on May 19, 2023, Rahul resident Merda district Jind had told that Nikhil had asked for Rs 40 lakh to send him to America. The accused had earlier assured him of sending him from Tanzania to America. He gave six lakh cash to the accused in August 2022 and two days later he gave another four and a half lakh rupees. Then the accused gave him a ticket to Tanzania. On November 1, 2022, the accused sent him from Delhi to Mumbai and from Mumbai to Tanzania.

After reaching Tanzania on November 3, he was stopped at the hotel and asked for another four and a half lakh rupees. After taking the money, the accused also snatched about 1290 dollars from him. Later he was sent back to India. When he returned and asked for his money back, the accused threatened him. After registering a case on the complaint and investigating, the police arrested the accused Nikhil Pahwa. By the order of the court, the accused has been taken on two-day police remand.
