North Korean: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Friday opened a key meeting of the country’s ruling party, state media KCNA reported on Saturday, a little more than a week after Pyongyang and Moscow signed a military defense agreement that has raised concerns for the United States. KCNA said five agenda items were approved at the 10th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea convened on Friday, but did not elaborate on the agenda. The statement said the meeting was chaired by Kim to “review the work done in the first half of the year and decide on a series of important issues that have urgently arisen.” North Korea and Russia revived a pact made during the Cold War era on June 19, when their leaders met in Pyongyang, and agreed to provide military assistance if they were ever attacked
