Palghar: A 19-year-old woman working in a drug manufacturing unit in Tarapur MIDC was killed by her lover on Monday by crushing her head with a stone. Police have arrested the accused Sumit Navneet Tandel (21), who works in a factory in the MIDC area, and are registering a case against him. The incident took place on Monday around 9 am when the victim Sneha Purushottam Chaudhary left her house with Sumit to go to the factory on a two-wheeler. The two had a quarrel over something while going to the workplace near Kumbhavali Naka on the Murbe-Tarapur MIDC road. Police officials said Sneha’s parents were against her relationship with the accused. Police said it is suspected that the quarrel took place over the issue of their marriage and they are investigating further. The quarrel took a violent turn and Sumit allegedly hit Sneha on the back of her head.

Some passersby reported the assault to the Boisar police and Sumit took her on his bike on the pretext of taking her to a nearby hospital. When the police enquired about the injured teenager in nearby hospitals, they could not find anyone. With the help of locals, the police began searching for the victim in marshy and thorny land near Eklare village, which is a few kilometres away from the spot where the two had a fight. Around 2.30 pm, the police found a body on marshy land near Eklare, bleeding profusely from the head and foaming at the mouth. Sneha was identified by her red clothes and black bag. Physical examination revealed that she had been hit on the head with a large, blunt object, the police said. The body was sent for post-mortem to the Tarapur Primary Health Centre. The police then began searching for the accused and he was nabbed in Satpati village. Deputy Superintendent of Police Vikas Naik and Police Inspector Shirish Pawar played a key role in investigating the crime and nabbing the accused within a few hours of the crime.
