Minor raped, accused arrested

Raigarh. Yesterday, police post Kharsia received numberless crime diary from police station Balko, district Korba for further investigation proceedings. Outpost in-charge Kharsia Sub Inspector Sanjay Nag registered the actual crime number 286/2024 under Section 376 IPC 6 POCSO Act against the accused Kanhu alias Kanhaiya Das Mahant resident of Jutmil Raigarh and immediately along with his staff reached Raigarh for locating and arresting the accused. Raids were conducted and the accused was detained who has been arrested today and sent on judicial remand. On behalf of the victim girl, her mother lodged a complaint in the police station on May 14 stating that she was living in her maternal home. Her children live with their grandparents in Kharsia.

Last March, her elder daughter had brought the children with her. The woman saw her daughter talking to Kanhu Mahant Jutmil on mobile and refused, on which the girl insisted on going back to her grandparents and went to Kharsia alone on May 12 without informing her. On May 14, when the woman came to her daughter in Kharsia and interrogated her, the girl told that Kanhu alias Kanhaiya Das Mahant had been luring and physically exploiting her for the last one year. The woman applied and lodged a report at Balko police station. On receipt of the crime diary by the outpost Kharsia police, the outpost in-charge, taking the crime related to women seriously, taking immediate action on the guidance of senior officers, arrested the accused Kanhu alias Kanhaiya Das Mahant, 29 years old, resident of Jutmil Raigarh, today and booked him for rape, POCSO Act. He has been produced on judicial remand in the crime and sent to jail.
