UP Man Shoots Mother, Bludgeons Wife, Throws Children From Roof, Then Kills Self

New Delhi: In a shocking case of murder-suicide, a man killed his wife, mother and three children before killing himself in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur on Saturday.
The incident took place in Palhapur village of Rampur Mathura, Sitapur, about 90 kilometers from Lucknow.

Police said Anurag Singh (42), a drug addict and alcoholic, killed his entire family before committing suicide at his home in Palhapur. He said Anurag, who was mentally challenged, often quarreled with his family because they wanted to send him to a de-addiction centre.

On Saturday, Anurag had a fight with his family when they reiterated their demand to get him admitted to a rehabilitation centre.

Soon after the argument, he shot dead his 65-year-old mother Savitri and then killed his wife Priyanka, 40, with a hammer. He then threw his three children – aged 12, 9 and 6 – from the roof of their house, killing all three of them. Later on, he shot himself.

There is a wave of mourning in the quiet villages of UP due to the murders. A large number of villagers gathered outside the house while the bodies were being taken for post-mortem.

Senior police officer Chakresh Mishra said, “Police and forensic teams are investigating all aspects of the case. A case will be registered after the detailed investigation is completed.”
