GNDU extended B.Ed special program

Punjab: CBSE guidelines state that all schools should have at least one special teacher for children with special needs. Emphasizing on inclusive education, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has announced the enhancement of its B.Ed Special Education (MD) program approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi. The intake capacity of the program is 30 seats.

Giving information about the need for the programme, GNDU Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh Sandhu said that the university has started it from the academic session 2023-24, and the first batch of students has been placed in schools and NGOs during the last semester. . “This program is unique in its nature as it aims to prepare teachers for children with multiple disabilities. After successful completion of the course, these students get a license to practice from the Rehabilitation Council of India,” he said.

Professor Amit Kouts, head of the education department of GNDU, said that the online registration process will start from May 8 on the gnduadmissions.org website. Professor Coutts said it is a two-year professional graduate degree course to prepare teachers to educate specially abled or physically challenged students.
“At present, there is a transformation of special schools into an inclusive environment and at the same time there is a gap in realizing inclusion in its true spirit due to lack of trained special teachers. After completion of the course, students are eligible for employment opportunities in the government and private sector,” he said.
