Uday’s inspiring journey from constable to civil servant
Vijayawada: Mulgani Udaya Krishna Reddy, a resident of Ullapalem village in Singarayakonda mandal of Prakasam district, has set an example for IAS aspirants that one should not let personal tragedy come in the way of dreaming big and achieving it.
He faced adversity early in life, losing his parents at an early age. Raised by his grandmother, Uday went to Zilla Parishad school and then government colleges. He became a police constable but left the job when his superiors humiliated him in the presence of his colleagues. Uday took the difficult decision to resign in 2019 after his circle inspector insulted him in front of around 60 constables.
Determined to pursue his aspirations, he focused his attention on civil services. He achieved great achievement in the recently declared UPSC 2024 Civil Services results. His flexibility and dedication kept him ahead of others. He secured 780th rank at All India level. His journey from humble beginnings to achieving success in the highly competitive Civil Services Examination serves as an inspiration for many.
Udaya lost his mother Jayamma when he was four and a half years old and his father Srinivasula Reddy when he was 15 years old. He was brought up by his grandmother Ramanamma, who was a daily wage labourer. Uday completed his schooling in Ullapalem village and high school in ZP School. He did Intermediate Vocational course in Lab Technician branch and completed BA from Jawahar Bharati Degree College. Now, he is studying MA Political Science through distance education.
His optional subject in UPSC exam was Political Science and International Relations. He used to devote eight to 10 hours every day to his studies. He trained at Sarath Chandra IAS Academy for Mains Examination and Interview.
He worked part-time as a lab technician in a private diabetes center during his intermediate studies and was selected for the constable post in 2012. He joined duty in October 2013 in Gudaluru, which was earlier located in Prakasam district and is now in Nellore after restructuring. Worked in Marine Police Station.
Speaking to TNIE, Uday shared, “Once our circle inspector insulted me in front of around 60 colleagues due to personal grudge. He ordered additional drills lasting more than an hour as disciplinary action. This made me very sad and I left the job in August 2018.
Despite the challenges, he realized his dream of succeeding in the Civil Services Examination. With the support of Siddharth Kaushal, the then SP of Prakasam district, he overcame the obstacles and succeeded.
He was fortunate to have financial and emotional support from his brother Prannoy Krishna Reddy, maternal uncle Koti Reddy and friends Yogi, Shiva Kumar, Sarath Chandra, Sunil and Rajesh.
After unsuccessful attempts in 2019, 2021 and 2022, he finally achieved his dream in 2023. He expressed satisfaction at the rank achieved and shared his desire to serve the underprivileged and work for animal welfare through government-backed initiatives.
He stressed on the importance of excellence coupled with discipline, determination and courage for UPSC aspirants.
UDAY aims to set up 109 (like 108) service and rehabilitation centers for roadside animals and organize Praja Darbars to remain accessible to the people. He is determined to fight against drug abuse for the safety of future generations.
