Security further tightened on international borders in north-eastern states

Agartala: Following directions from the Election Commission of India (ECI), multi-layered security arrangements have been made along the 5,437 km long international borders in the eight north-eastern states to prevent any illegal activities before and during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Officials said on Wednesday that the elections are starting from April 19.

Senior officers of the Army, Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) are frequently visiting border areas in the Northeast, holding several meetings and sensitizing their troops deployed on the international borders. . No fencing and fencing has been done since the announcement of the election schedule on March 16.

Police observers appointed by the ECI are also visiting villages and trouble-prone areas along the international border to monitor and review the security arrangements. Special measures are being taken. BSF ADG Eastern Command Ravi Gandhi is now on a three-day visit to the border areas of Mizoram and Assam, where he was briefed about the operational situation.

The BSF ADG along with other senior officers also visited the India-Bangladesh borders in Karimganj and Cachar districts of Assam, where he reviewed the operational preparedness.

Gandhi also interacted with BSF commanders and soldiers and officers of the Integrated Key Posts (ICP) at Sutarakandi during his visit.

Last month, the officer visited the India-Bangladesh border areas along Tripura and interacted with soldiers deployed at the border.
Elections will be held on 25 Lok Sabha seats in eight north-eastern states in the first three phases of the seven-phase parliamentary elections, with 15 seats in the first phase (April 19) and seven seats in the second phase. 26 April), while voting on four seats will be held in the third phase (7 May).
