Mayor election in Delhi on 26th April, AAP’s litmus test
New Delhi: Even before the Lok Sabha elections, Aam Aadmi Party will have to go through a big electoral process in Delhi. This election is for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Delhi. Elections for both the posts will be held on April 26. Its official information was released on Wednesday. According to the information released, a meeting of the Delhi Municipal Corporation House has been called on April 26 for the elections. At present, both the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in Delhi are with the Aam Aadmi Party. In such a situation, it will be important to see whether it is able to maintain its victory on both these posts in the upcoming elections or not. Before the Lok Sabha elections, the election of the Mayor of Municipal Corporation (MCD) is to be held in Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party and Congress do not yet have an alliance in MCD, but it is believed that almost a consensus has been reached between the two parties regarding the MCD elections. This election of Mayor is going to be no less than a test for both Aam Aadmi Party and Congress. After the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, both the parties are now seen talking about holding hands with each other. Currently Shaili Oberoi is holding the post of Mayor. But this time the House is certain to get a new Mayor in his place. This year the post of Mayor is reserved for a Scheduled Caste councillor. In such a situation, only the winning councilor from Scheduled Caste will get this post. Whereas any councilor can nominate for the post of Deputy Mayor. It is noteworthy that Aam Aadmi Party has majority in MCD. 250 elected councilors, 7 Lok Sabha MPs, 3 Rajya Sabha members and 14 MLAs vote in the election of Mayor, Deputy Mayor. Apart from this, with the support of 9 Congress councilors, AAP can have good numerical strength.
