STF busts interstate drug smuggling racket, 5 arrested

Punjab: With the arrest of five people, the Special Task Force, the anti-narcotics wing of Punjab Police, claims to have busted an interstate racket of banned drugs.

The team seized more than 13.28 lakh narcotics during the month-long operation in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. It has arrested five people in this connection while more arrests are likely to be made during the investigation.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh Dhami of Kot Mohammad Khan village of Goindwal Sahib in Tarn Taran, Jaspreet Singh (alias Jas) of Sultanwind Road, Jagroop Singh (alias Jagga) of Dhanoe Khurd village of Gharinda, Alex Dhaliwal of North Saharanpur. happened. Intezaar Salmani of Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

STF Assistant Inspector General, Border Range here, Vishaljit Singh said that on February 20, the STF arrested Sukhwinder Dhami and Jaspreet Singh from the Beas river bridge and seized 4 lakh tablets of sedative pills, including Tramadol, from their possession. On the same day, police also seized Rs 24,000 worth of narcotics from Dhami’s residence in Tarn Taran.
During interrogation, both of them told the police about their backward relations and Alex Dhaliwal’s name came up. Later, he was arrested from Ambala-Saharanpur Road after the team laid a trap in the area. The information shared by him led to the seizure of more than nine lakh drug pills and capsules. After interrogating him, the police reached Dehradun resident Intezaar Salmani, who lived in New Deol Nagar, Jalandhar.

“Police have also seized two cars and three mobile phones from their possession besides alleged drug money of Rs 2.37 lakh. The mobile phone was sent for forensic examination,” said Vishaljeet.
STF DSP Vavinder Mahajan said that police teams are conducting raids to arrest other associates involved in the racket. He said more arrests are likely to be made during further investigation.
