Apple IPhone 12 Gets Qi2 Charging Support, Now Can Charge With 15W Wireless Charging Speed

Cupertino Giant Apple has reported unlocked a new feature for the iPhone 12 smartphone. According to the latest report by Macworld, it is unveiled that the iPhone 12 series now supports faster wireless charging if magnetically connected to non-MagSafe Qi2 chargers.

Even though there has not been any official announcement about this by Apple, the latest iOS 17.4 update has enabled Qi2 support for the iPhone 12. The report has suggested that the iPhone 12 devices can now achieve full 15W wireless charging speed if they are used with non-MagSafe Qi2 magnetic chargers. This feature was previously available to the newer iPhone models.

According to the tests run by Macworld, the iPhone 12 series that are running iOS 17.4, match the charging speed of Apple-certified MagSafe chargers when magnetically attached to non-MagSafe Qi2 chargers. The devices also display the 15W charging animation.

Extended Support

The iPhone 15 series was the first device in the Apple’s iPhone series to get the support, the service was extended to iPhone 13 and 14 with iOS 17.2 update. The increased charging speed is applicable to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models. However, the iPhone 12 Mini gets a 12W wireless charging.

The Qi2 was introduced at CES 2024 and was the successor to the Qi standard. It offers improved efficiency and integrates magnetic alignment inspired by MagSafe technology.

The report might be conflicting as Apple has not highlighted the iPhone 12’s compatibility with Qi2 chargers in its release notes of iOS 17.4. Accessory manufacturers like Belkin and Anker also provide confusing information. While Belkin states that iPhone 12 offers a compatibility with Qi2 chargers, Anker has offered different information. We are eagerly waiting for the clarification from Apple regarding iPhone 12’s charging compatibility.
