Five MLAs may resign in protest against the candidature of KH Muniyappa’s son-in-law

Kolar: There was massive chaos in Kolar as three Congress MLAs and two Congress MLCs decided to submit their resignations after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) allegedly refused to issue tickets to Chikkapedanna, the second son-in-law of veteran Congress leader KH Muniyappa. No doubt, all is not well in the Kolar Congress as two teams have been formed – one led by veteran Congress leader K H Muniyappa and the other led by former Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar which also includes MLA Kothur Manjunath ( Kolar), KY Nanje Gowda (Malur). S N Narayanaswamy (Bangarapet) and MLC Nazir Ahmed.
It is noteworthy that in the last parliamentary elections, the team which was identified as ‘Alliance’ had directly worked against KH Muniyappa and supported the sitting MP S Muniswamy. Then for the first time KH Muniyappa tasted defeat in his political career.

However, in the assembly elections, KH Muniyappa contested from Devanahalli on Congress ticket and won and became the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies. For the Lok Sabha elections, KH Muniyappa and his followers put forward the name of his son-in-law Chikkapedanna, while the Ramesh Kumar camp appealed to the high command to declare a Scheduled Caste (Right) candidate on the ticket.
Subsequently, differences between the two groups increased and now the MLAs led by Ramesh Kumar, including district in-charge minister Dr Sudhakar, MLA KY Nanje Gowda, Kothur Manjunath and MLCs Nazir Ahmed and Anil Kumar, have decided to resign.
Senior leaders including KPCC President DK Shivakumar are expected to talk to him.
