YSRCP is against CAA in its current form: MLA
Andhra Pradesh. The ruling YSR Congress is against the current draft of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). A party MLA said this on Wednesday. Party MLA Hafiz Khan on Wednesday reiterated YSRCP’s stand on the CAA, which came into force three days ago, and sought amendments in the law to address the concerns of the Muslim community. Reiterating the apprehensions of the people, he told reporters that the CAA will have an adverse impact on the Muslim community and has created a sense of insecurity in the community.
He claimed, “If any Indian Muslim is not able to prove his citizenship in NRC or NPR, then CAA will not be applicable on him. However, if a person of any other religion faces a similar situation, then CAA Will be implemented and will provide protection to him. Today, somewhere within the system, there is a lot of distress within the Muslim community that they may be targeted through NRC/NPR and CAA will not be able to save them.”
The YSRCP leader said the Center should reconsider this and take everyone into confidence. He said that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s vision focuses on providing security and justice to every citizen. The Chief Minister and YSRCP have consistently stood in support of giving equal importance to all communities. He reminded that the Assembly has already passed a resolution that the state government will not implement NRC.
