ASP kidnapped, rescued by police after conducting operation
Imphal. Some armed activists abducted an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Manipur Police on Tuesday evening in Imphal West district, but the security forces launched a prompt action and rescued him within a few hours. This information was provided by officers. ASP Amit Kumar, posted in the operation cell of Manipur Police, was abducted from his residence in Wangkhei by a group of armed activists, a police officer said. A large contingent of Manipur Police immediately launched a search operation and rescued him safely within a few hours.
As Manipur has been witnessing ethnic violence for almost ten months, the Union Home Ministry has donated three landmine protected Quick Reaction Fighting (QRF) vehicles to the state. After seeing the vehicles, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said on “Will greatly help in protecting the security forces while performing their duties at the places. The State Government keeps taking initiatives to strengthen the security measures and protect lives and properties.”
In a related development, acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of arms and ammunition in Sabungkhok areas of Imphal East district, a joint team of Indian Army, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police on Monday launched a search operation. Three improvised long-range mortars (Pompey), two empty boxes of improvised long-range mortar, one 9 mm pistol with magazine full of bullets, three live grenades of Lathode grenade launcher, one 2-inch mortar round, one 12 bore single A large cache of barrel guns and other ammunition was recovered from the Sabungkhok Khunao-Chanung Ridge in the district.
