Palestinian President accepts resignation of Shtayyeh government
Ramallah: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh’s government. Abbas on Monday asked Shtayyeh’s government to continue its duties temporarily until a new government is formed, Palestinian news agency Wafa reported. Earlier in the day, Shtayyeh submitted his government’s resignation to Abbas, Xinhua news agency reported. “The decision to resign has been taken in light of the ongoing activities in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem,” Shtayyeh said during the weekly cabinet meeting held in Ramallah. Formed in April 2019, Shtayyeh’s government was tasked with facilitating Palestinian reconciliation efforts.
