Checks worth Rs 16 crore given to 601 medal winners in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Friday handed over a check of Rs 16.31 crore, which will be given as special incentive to 601 medal winners participating in international, national and state level sports and Khelo India Youth Games.

The event was organized by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu at Kalaivanar Arangam. Apart from this, he issued appointment orders to four players under three percent reservation of sports quota. These four people are S Ranganayaki, R Sangeetha, P Agalya and R Virgin.

Speaking at the event, Udhayanidhi said, “It was in Tamil Nadu that a trust for sports was started for the first time. Named ‘Tamil Nadu Champions Trust’, it has provided Rs 6 crore to around 300 players to participate in sporting events around the world.’
