Identifying & Treating Cerebral Stroke: All you need to know

A ‘cerebral stroke,’ commonly known as ‘brain stroke’ is a condition that occurs when the supply of blood to the brain is blocked. Due to this, the tissues present in that particular part of the brain do not receive the required oxygen or nutrients.

Within minutes of which, brain cells begin to die, causing brain stroke. In case of this medical condition, immediate emergency treatment is required.

There are different types of strokes. They are as follows:

Ischemic Stroke
The Ischemic stroke is the most common type of cerebral stroke experienced in people. A total of 87 percent of the cases of brain stroke are of this kind. This stroke is caused when a blood clot in the brain prevents the flow of oxygen.

Hemorrhagic Stroke
The Hemorrhagic Stroke occurs when a vessel in the brain ruptures or breaks out. As per medical terms, the Hemorrhagic strokes are caused due to “aneurysms or arteriovenous malformations (AVMs).”

Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)
This type of brain stroke occurs when the amount of blood flow to one part of the brain is received inadequately. Otherwise known as the “mini stroke,” these resolve without treatment in maximum cases. This is because the flow of blood resumes after a brief period of time and gets normal.

Further, there are some common symptoms to identify a cerebral stroke. A brain stroke can be identified when:

You face difficulty in speaking normally, or have trouble in understanding what others say.
You feel numbness, weakness or paralysis in one side of your body. It can be identified when you try to lift both your arms but one falls down.
You suddenly start having blurred visions. In certain cases, one might even experience blackened vision.
Notably, a sudden severe headache can be a symptom of a brain stroke as well.
In case you doubt a person of getting a brain stroke, use the “FAST” technique and rush the person to a doctor. The “FAST” stands for “Face Arms Speech Time.”

Face: Check if one side of the person’s face suddenly starts drooping.
Arms: Check if one or both the arms of the person is unable to rise up.
Speech: Check if the person is able to speak properly or not.
Time: In case you notice even one of these symptoms, do not waste any time before rushing the person to the hospital.
It is noteworthy mentioning that renowned Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty faced a cerebral stroke on Saturday. He was rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention after he complained of uneasiness. However, latest reports tell us that the actor is stable now.
