BSE Sensex falls nearly 1 per cent and Nifty 50 trades in red

New Delhi: On RBI’s policy announcement day on Thursday, the Indian Benchmark indices BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 opened in green but soon after nosedived into negative territory. At 9.29 am, Sensex was at 72386 points, up 234 points or 0.32 per cent, and Nifty was at 21,995 points, up 65 points or 0.30 per cent. Among the widely-tracked Nifty 50 stocks, 37 advanced, 12 declined, and the rest 1 was steady at the time of filing this report. However, after the RBI monetary policy announcement at 10 am, the BSE Sensex dropped nearly 1.00 per cent or 716.30 points at 71,435.70 while Nifty was down 207.05 points or 0.94 per cent at 21,723.45. RBI conducts six bimonthly meetings in a financial year, where it deliberates interest rates, money supply, inflation outlook, and various macroeconomic indicators.
