On the complaint of the girl, a case was registered against five for violating the Child Marriage Act
Tarn Taran: The marriage of a teenage girl resident of Kotli Saru Khan village has landed the girl’s parents and her alleged in-laws in trouble. On Sunday, Weroval police had registered a case against five members of both the parties. The victim, who is three months pregnant, had filed a criminal complaint with the Weroval police on Sunday.
Sub-Inspector Mandeep Kaur recorded the statement of the victim. Police said the suspects named in the case were the victim’s parents Parminder Singh and Parveen Kaur, residents of Kotli Saru Khan village, and Kuldeep Singh, his father Balwinder Singh and mother Savinder Kaur, residents of Muchhal village. ,
The girl told the police that she was married to Kuldeep Singh on 5 November 2023 and now she is three months pregnant. The victim said that she was not 18 years of age at the time of marriage, about which both her parents and the groom’s side were aware. He said that even then both sides knowingly violated the law. The five – Kuldeep Singh, Balwinder Singh, Savinder Kaur, Parminder Singh and Parveen Kaur – have been booked under sections 9, 10 and 11 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, police said.
