Margao: Margao markets will remain closed for a day in view of PM’s visit

Margao: All markets, including fish markets owned by South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA), will remain closed today in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state.

On the other hand, many shops and mattresses have already been closed in and around Kadamba bus stand in Margao. Sources said that chicken and fruit and vegetable sellers will also keep their shops closed for a day.

It is noteworthy that hundreds of small business operators are engaged in business activities in and around the KTC bus stand, whose business operations will be badly affected due to Modi’s public meeting to be held on Tuesday.

Retail Fish Vendors Association president Felix Gonsalves also said they have not received any official notification on the issue yet, but everyone has planned to stop selling fish to prevent chaos. “We have not received any notice yet but the authorities have verbally informed us requesting us to close business operations for a few hours. And so, everyone has unanimously decided to cooperate with the authorities,” Gonsalves said.
