AMRITSAR: Social media bloggers urged to work to promote tourism

Taking a major step towards promoting the tourism industry in Amritsar, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori has invited social media bloggers and influencers to come forward to put the city on the international tourism map.

Announcing several initiatives under the tourism promotion policy of the district administration, he said that Amritsar is a religious and historical city and lakhs of devotees come here every day but do not stay for more than a day because they are not aware about the important tourist places here. Is. “This is the age of social media and people can be made aware of the rich heritage of the historically and culturally important places of the city through social media. For this, the district administration has set up a help cell where interested people can apply for help,” he said. The district administration has issued helpline number 9115639012.

He said that efforts are being made to keep the visiting tourists in the city for a longer period. He said the move is aimed at generating curiosity among tourists from within the country and abroad and connecting them with a culturally rich experience beyond one-day visits.

The Deputy Commissioner said, “Our plan is to develop the city as a ‘destination wedding’ site. There is a lot of discussion going on about the infrastructure and other developments required for this and projects in this regard will be announced soon. Under the ‘Made in India’ campaign, preparations are also being made to build ‘Unity Mall’ here as a one-stop shop for the arts/artefacts/handicrafts of Punjab. The Unity Mall concept, a large shopping mall style centre, will be built to cater to the needs of art connoisseurs, selling the country’s arts and crafts under one roof.

He said that 23 districts of Punjab will be given one stall each on permanent basis, where they will be able to sell the standard products of their region. He said that apart from this, 36 states and union territories of the country will be given one big hall each as a sales centre.
