CM Sai, in his greeting message issued on the eve of Chherchhera festival, has said that Chherchhera festival, celebrated as Mahadan and harvest festival, is the carrier of our rich and glorious tradition of social harmony, charity. It is celebrated on the full moon day of Pausha month to celebrate the arrival of the new crop. Mother Shakambhari Jayanti is also celebrated on this day. According to mythological belief, on this day Lord Shankar had asked for alms from Mother Annapurna, hence people also donate vegetables and fruits along with paddy.
