Will Priyanka Gandhi contest elections from Koppal?
Koppal: Social media platforms are filled with viral news claiming that Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi may contest from Koppal. There are also rumors that AICC sources have conducted the survey without informing the local Congress unit and are considering Koppal as one of the options. There is another discussion that Telangana is the alternative choice of AICC sources. Some people on Twitter have started inviting the senior leader to contest from Koppal with the hashtag ‘Please come to Koppal’. However, no senior Congress leader has confirmed this. But, local leaders are spreading this news on social media platforms.
The current Lok Sabha member from Koppal is Karadi Sanganna from BJP party. Congress members believe that since there is an anti-administration wave, the five schemes of the Karnataka state government will become an additional advantage for the Congress party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The local Congress unit is not aware of this but has assured that they will work to ensure that their leader Priyanka Gandhi wins with a big margin. Koppal is a strong base of Congress. With 8 assembly constituencies, six of which have been won by the Congress, it is believed that Koppal will be a safe place for Priyanka to win the Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier, Indira Gandhi had got a political rebirth after contesting elections from Karnataka, while Sonia Gandhi had contested from Ballari in 1999. Therefore, Koppal could be the best place for General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi to contest the elections. CM Siddaramaiah also has a big fan base in Koppal.
Koppal Congress members said that if Priyanka Gandhi contests from Koppal, it would be a boon for Karnataka as it would instill confidence among members across the state. Some Congress members also said that the future is bright for national leaders contesting elections from Karnataka. Law and Tourism Minister HK Patil said, “The news is not true and we cannot say that there will be more chances of winning in Koppal.”
