Tamil Nadu: College bus crushes engineering student riding a bike

Erode: A 19-year-old engineering student died when her college bus hit her scooter. The accident happened near Gobichettipalayam on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as R Swarna (19) of Easwaran Kovil Street in Gobichettipalayam, Erode. The police have arrested the bus driver.

“Swarna’s father Ravi Subramaniam works in a knitwear export company in Tiruppur. Swarna was their only daughter,” the police said. ”Swarna was a second year BE Computer Science and Engineering student at a private engineering college in Othakuthirai near Gobichettipalayam. Swarna left home for college on her electric scooter. The accident happened near Vellalapalayam Junction. His bike was allegedly hit by one of the two buses belonging to the same college. Both the buses were speeding and one tried to overtake the other,” police said.

The college bus hit Swarna, who was riding a bike, due to which she was thrown away and died on the spot due to serious head injuries. The local police sent Swarna’s body to Gobichettipalayam Government Hospital for post-mortem. “The Gobichettipalayam police registered a case and arrested the bus driver, S Sriram (23) of Kadambur, Sathyamangalam, Erode. Further investigation is underway,” said a police officer.
