Assam: Government official caught red handed in bribery scandal
Guwahati: In a recent incident, vigilance sleuths successfully arrested two government officials accused of sodomy, catching each in separate traps carefully laid by the authorities. The first incident took place in Samaria Revenue Circle located in Kamrup district of Assam. The person involved has been identified as Pradeep Kalita, who was working as Supervisor Kanungo in the office of the Circle Officer in Samaria Revenue Circle of Kamrup district. During the operation, Kalita was surprised by Soborno holding her hand while accepting him in his office. According to reports, Soborno sought changes to facilitate a number of reforms in the lease, a key document on regional revenue. The complainant, burdened with bureaucracy, was forced to offer illegal payments to expedite necessary reforms. At the same time, the Vigilance team raided for the second time, this time in the office of the District Agriculture Officer in Goalpara. The officer involved in this case was identified as Budheshwar Das. He was arrested for accepting a soborno demand within the premises of his office. According to reports, the request was made as a reward for expediting the processing and release of facts related to the complainant. Pradeep Kalita and Budheshwar Das, who are now under investigation by vigilance sleuths, face serious legal consequences for their involvement in corrupt practices. Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation into the circumstances that led to the Soborno incidents. This prompt and decisive action of the Vigilance Team underlines the commitment to root out corruption within the government ranks. Incidental trespassing and subsequent detention serves to discourage other officers, who may be tempted to participate in similar illegal activities. As the investigation develops, it is anticipated that more details will emerge regarding the scope of employee involvement and whether these incidents are isolated or indicative of broader systemic problems. The vigilance displayed by the officers reflects their dedication to safeguarding transparency, integrity and accountability in the public service.
