He said the Central government is giving back the cess, taxes or even GST collected from Tamil Nadu and is also providing additional funds. The Center has paid about Rs 81,645 crore to all states pending since 1996-97 and Tamil Nadu’s share in this was Rs 3,225 crore.
He said that since 2014 till now around Rs 57,557 crore has been received from Tamil Nadu through cess and surcharge. “Of the amount, Rs 37,965 crore was disbursed for construction of NHAI roads, Rs 11,116 crore from education cess for Samagra Shiksha Program for school education, Rs 4,839 crore for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Rural Roads Scheme. Of the Rs 36,353.12 crore collected as GST from Tamil Nadu in 2022-23, the Center released the entire amount to the state, and in addition, provided 41% of the CGST collection of Rs 27,360 crore. We have completely given GST to the state governments without any discrimination.”
The Union Finance Minister said that the Finance Commission decides on the amount to be given to each state. He said the amount is disbursed on a monthly basis and in some cases, advance payment is made. He handed over checks to the beneficiaries under various schemes of the Central Government in the programme.
