UGC: Annual capacity building scheme launched for staff augmentation, skill enhancement
New Delhi: University Grants Commission (UGC) launched its Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP) for the first time to give a jump start towards growth and skill enhancement of its staff.
The scheme was launched by UGC Chairman Professor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar on Tuesday. Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman, UGC, said the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) was established by the Government of India vide Gazette of India on April 1, 2021.
Kumar said that UGC is the first autonomous organization which has launched a scheme for capacity building of its employees in collaboration with CBC.
“The Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP) is a comprehensive plan outlining the competencies of individual officers and the interventions required to enhance the overall capacity of the UGC and the plan is derived from a robust capacity need assessment exercise conducted with more than 6 UGC officers. And was done with the employees. Months starting from March 2023,” Kumar said.
Highlighting the work done by UGC in capacity building of its employees and officers, Chairman Kumar said, “By September 15, 2023, more than 600 UGC employees had joined the iGOT Karmayogi platform. “In the first quarter (October to December, 2023), 630 UGC employees have completed more than 4500 courses and each employee has completed an average of 7 courses.”
“During 2023, UGC has envisioned reservation in services, introduction of emerging technologies using AI, overview of data-driven decision making (DDDM) using higher education data and relevant use cases, various offline/face-to-face interactions on PFMS. Training programs have also been organized. Awareness about general financial rules, contract management and procurement of services, RTI etc. for its employees,” he said.
Emphasizing the objective of the UGC to do all this, Kumar said, “The idea is to build, develop and nurture the capabilities, talents, competencies, competencies and aptitudes of the UGC staff to enhance their capacity to serve the higher education system in India. We have to increase further.”
