Odisha train: Supreme Court seeks details from Center on safety measures to prevent rail accidents

Months after a tragic train accident in Odisha killed 293 people, the Tribunal Supreme on Tuesday asked the Center about the safety standards in the Railways, including ‘Kavach’, the automated system for protecting trains. The problem arose in connection with a fatal accident that involved three trains: Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and a goods train. What did SC say? It is reported that a tribunal comprising Justices Surya Kant and KV Vishwanathan asked the Fiscal General to provide the tribunal with all details of the safety measures that Ferrocarriles is implementing or proposes to implement at the next hearing after four weeks. Is. The tribunal asked, “Has any exercise been conducted to determine what the financial implications of the ‘Kavach’ system would be if implemented across India?” The Superior Court’s direction was introduced while hearing a petition seeking specific directions to the government to implement “safety against railway accidents” measures to avoid accidents. The petition has also demanded the issuance of guidelines to implement the ‘Kavach’ system in the Railways with immediate effect. It has been clearly demonstrated that Kavach, which is an automatic train protection system, has not yet been implemented “on this route…”, the petitioner said.
