Chennai: New Year celebrations passed off peacefully
Greater Chennai Police on Monday said New Year celebrations passed off peacefully in Chennai city and more than 18,000 personnel have been deployed to protect the general public. No untoward incident was reported amid tight surveillance of 18,000 personnel, including officers and men, besides 1,500 home guards, in the Greater Chennai police limits, an official release said. Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore inspected the security arrangements in the city and interacted with the public. At the stroke of midnight, near Labor Statue Point on Marina Beach, the city police chief cut the ‘New Year, 2024 cake’ in the presence of the general public and police personnel. Rathore distributed cake among the people and wished everyone a happy new year.
