Tripura: Tribal Suraksha Manch takes out rally to remove converted tribals from ST list
If conversion cannot be stopped then folk culture will be seen in the museum. Prakash Singh Week, member of the Central Committee of Tribal Security Forum and former District Judge of Madhya Pradesh, said this at Vivekananda Maidan on Tuesday. Key speakers at the Tribe Suraksha Manch rally demanded revocation of the Scheduled Tribe status of the converted tribes (tribals) in Tripura and called for strict action to protect the culture, customs and traditional practices of the tribal society. Manch’s Central Committee member Prakash Singh Week said that true folk culture will be seen in museums only when the society does not fail the forces behind religious conversion. Vikram Bahadur Jamatiya, convenor of Tribal Security Forum, said, “The people of this country are getting reservation because they are socially and economically backward. The story of backwardness has been created by the leftists.” He said, “The Constitution has given reservation to protect the rich culture, rituals, customs and other religious practices of the people. If people convert to Islam or Christianity, they are naturally moving away from their roots and culture. “Thereby, that person has no right to enjoy the benefits that accrue to him by virtue of his Scheduled Caste status.”
