President Murmu said- the importance of authentic, accurate data has increased manifold

New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday said with the increasing availability of information through multiple channels, the importance of authentic and accurate data has increased manifold.

The President was addressing the officials of the Indian Statistical Service. Probationers from the Indian Audit and Accounts Service, Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes) and Indian Statistical Service met President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.

Addressing the probationers, the President said that public service will give them an opportunity to serve the country by holding important positions in the governance system.

They can contribute immensely to India’s development journey through innovative, smart and citizen-centric work in their respective fields.

He advised them to remember that their actions and decisions will have an impact on the lives of all citizens. He said that the integrity, hard work and honesty that each of them brings to their work will play a huge role in determining the pace of development of our people.

Addressing officers of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service, the President said that they are expected to act as guardians of the public trust and guardians of financial prudence.

They should always follow the values of truth, transparency and fairness while taking decisions and taking action.

He said that they should be proud to be a part of an institution which has strengthened its position in the governance system over the years. It is the duty of young officers like him to carry forward this rich legacy.

Addressing officers of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes), the President said they will be entrusted with a number of duties and the administration and collection of taxes.

To perform diverse tasks efficiently, they need to be updated about the latest developments in all fields and also need to work closely with officials from other services and departments.

Addressing officials of the Indian Statistical Service, the President said that data forms a very important basis for all activities ranging from formulation of policies to analysis of outcomes of programs and schemes.

There is a need to generate accurate and high quality data sets using latest technologies and international standards.

He said ISS officials need to use the latest methods from artificial intelligence, big data, data science and other fields to compile official statistics and manage survey operations.
