Assam: Born Savitri Jindal became India’s richest woman

Guwahati: Assam-born Tinsukia-born OP Jindal Group chairperson emeritus Savitri Jindal has become India’s richest woman and has now overtaken steel magnate Lakshmi Niwas Mittal to become the fifth richest person in the country. According to Bloomberg, 73-year-old Savitri Jindal has a net worth of $24.6 billion, leaving behind software tycoon Azim Premji. Wipro’s Azim Premji is in sixth place with a wealth of $24 billion. For the Jindal Group, it is the flagship company, JSW Steel, which contributes about 30 per cent of its assets. While JSW Infrastructure added another $4.8 billion to its wealth, other stocks like Jindal Steel & Power and JSW Energy also added about $4.6 billion each. Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani continues to top the list of richest Indians with a net worth of $92.3 billion. Gautam Adani is at the second position with a net worth of $85.5 billion, followed by Shapoor Pallonji Mistry with a net worth of $33.6 billion. In fourth place is HCL’s Shiv Nadar with assets of $31.59 billion. Savitri Jindal was born in a Hindu family in Tinsukia, Assam. She married Om Prakash Jindal, who founded the steel and energy conglomerate Jindal Group, in the 1970s.
