The patient who died in Kozhikode MCH tested Covid positive

Kozhikode: An elderly man who died on Friday during treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital was found infected with Covid on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Kaliyattu Parambathu Kumaran (77), a resident of Kundukadavu ward of Kunnummal Panchayat.

Panchayat vice-president V Vigilesh said Kumaran was being treated at home for over a month due to age-related ailments. Meanwhile, he was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital as suffocation and wheezing increased. After this, he died in the hospital on Friday.

During testing after the death of the patient, his Covid test came out positive. The body was cremated on Saturday following the Covid protocol.

Kozhikode DMO Dr N Rajendran said, “We have received only the preliminary report on the Covid case of the deceased from the medical college. “More details will be confirmed after detailed investigation.”

Officials said there was no need to worry as only a few people were in contact with the deceased. Covid test samples have also been taken from the family members who accompanied the patient to the hospital.

In the backdrop of Covid deaths in Kunnummal gram panchayat, panchayat officials have asked the people of the area to remain alert. Local residents have also been advised to avoid visiting the house of the deceased.
