Maharashtra opposition leader demands increased security amid OBC-Maratha quota tension

Mumbai: The conflict between the Maratha community and the OBC over the issue of reservations has turned serious after the leader of Maharashtra’s opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, said he was opposing granting quota benefits to the Marathas under the Category OBC, he said on Monday that he had received threats. .mensages.

Wadettiwar, a senior leader of the Congress and one of the prominent leaders of the OBC in the state, wrote a letter to the Minister Principal Eknath Shinde and the Vice Minister Principal Devendra Fadnavis demanding an increase in security which led to the messages of threat.

Wadettiwar, who currently has a Y-plus security cover, allegedly received calls and threat messages through his mobile phone.

Although clarifying that the OBCs are not against the Maratha reservation, the Congress leader has opposed the provision of reservations to the Marathas under the OBC category. He argued that granting ‘Kunbi’ certificates to the Marathas would be an injustice to the 372 subcastes under the OBC category. Wadettiwar has also criticized Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil, who has been demanding Kunbi caste certificates for Marathas so that they can avail the benefits in the OBC category. “There exists a plot to remove the OBC quota through the entry through the back door of the Marathas”, he said.

However, Jarange Patil has responded to Wadettiwar by accusing him of neglecting the poor and oppressed. Wadettiwar’s motives were questioned, claiming interference from the opposition despite records confirming his cause.
