OBITUARY: Retired teacher and social worker Lokeswar Barua

Lokeswar Barua, a retired teacher and an active social worker of Kusumtola area under Jamugurihat, breathed his last on September 10 at a private hospital due a brief illness. He was 93. A resident of Kusumtola, Barua had started his career in the PWD and later joined the teaching profession in 1960. He had served in the Navil School, Chariduar as a headmaster. Later, he joined the Normal School, Sootea. At a later stage, he was promoted as a project officer of Adult Education and as a BEEO (Block Elementary Education Officer) of Naduar Education Block and finally promoted as a DEEO (District Elementary Education Officer). All the business establishments of the greater Kusumtola commercial area were shut down till 12 PM on September 10. Organizations and individuals, including the teaching staff of THB College, Kusumtola Unnayan Samiti, Kusumtola Jubak Sangha, Kusumtola Chamber of Commerce, Naduar Press Club and Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika, environmentalist Commission Mili reached the Kusumtola residence of Lokeswar Barua and paid rich tributes. He leaves behind his wife, five daughters along with a host of relatives. His demise was widely mourned here.
