Eight Nigerian STF tightens screws on social site fraudsters

Public Relations Webdesk | The cybercrime police has busted a Nigerian gang who duped people by making fake profiles on social sites and befriended them on the pretext of sending gifts from abroad. Police arrested one accused and served notices to seven. The accused were running the business in Delhi. CO Cybercrime Station Ankush Mishra claims that for the first time action has been taken against eight Nigerian nationals simultaneously in the country.

SSP STF Ayush Aggarwal said that elderly Reshma Dewan, a resident of Vasant Vihar, had filed a case of cheating of Rs 19 lakh in April. He got a call on WhatsApp. The caller introduced himself as Dr. James Hudson. The woman was also taken money on the pretext of sending a gift. By registering a case in this matter, the cybercrime team started the investigation.

Investigation revealed that this forgery was done from Vipin Garden Police Station Mohan Nagar area of Delhi. The team raided on Saturday night. On the spot, a Nigerian was arrested in the swindle with the appropriate equipment. Seven others have been given notices for their involvement in the swindle.
