UCC draft may come soon in Uttarakhand

Dehradun (IANS) | A big resolution of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is going to be proved in Uttarakhand. In the next few days, the situation regarding the Uniform Civil Code will become clear. Chief Minister Dhami has already given a clear indication that the draft UCC may come before the public by the last week of June. As Chief Minister, Dhami had promised to implement Uniform Civil Code in the state in the month of March last year. After which, in the first cabinet meeting after coming to the government, the Dhami government formed a committee on UCC. Since then this topic has become a topic of discussion in the whole country.

Uniform Civil Code means one law for all religions. It will cover a wide range of topics including marriage, divorce, property and adoption. Even if some people consider it a political issue and give a political twist, but from all the High Courts (especially the Delhi High Court) to the Supreme Court, they are in favor of implementing the Uniform Civil Code in the country. The Supreme Court has asked the present Central Government about the efforts made so far in this regard, in which the Central Government has said that opinion has been sought from the Law Commission of India.

The draft committee constituted by the Dhami government under the chairmanship of retired Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai has interacted with the major stakeholders of every class, every community, every caste in the state. Here Chief Minister Dhami’s stand regarding Uniform Civil Code is clear.

The BJP’s 2019 election manifesto had promised to implement the Uniform Civil Code. Therefore, it is hoped that as soon as it is implemented in Uttarakhand, it can be implemented across the country as well. If Dhami succeeds in this, then his image will become special at the national level as well and the law of public interest will also be implemented.
