License of 18 pharma companies manufacturing spurious and poor quality medicines canceled

New Delhi. The central government has taken major action against the pharma companies manufacturing spurious and poor quality medicines. The government has canceled the licenses of 18 pharma companies. Apart from this, these companies have been asked to stop manufacturing. Official sources said that these inspections were conducted in 20 states and union territories in the last 15 days.
Notice issued to 26 companies
An official source said action has been taken against 76 companies as part of the first phase of the special drive against manufacturing of substandard drugs. “Licenses of 18 pharma companies have been canceled for manufacturing spurious and adulterated drugsā€¦ Besides, show-cause notices have been issued to 26 companies,” he said.

According to sources, 203 companies have been identified by the regulators under the special drive and most of the companies are in Himachal Pradesh (70), Uttarakhand (45) and Madhya Pradesh (23). Recently, questions have been raised about the quality of medicines manufactured by Indian companies. In February, Tamil Nadu-based Global Pharma Healthcare recalled all of its eye drops in the US for allegedly affecting eyesight. Prior to that, the deaths of children in Gambia and Uzbekistan last year were linked to cough syrup made in India. The Modi government has clamped down on pharma companies making fake and substandard medicines. The government has canceled the licenses of 18 pharma companies in the country. This action has been taken by the government after allegations of making fake medicines. Recently, 76 companies from 20 states were inspected by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI). After which this action of canceling the license has been taken by the government.

Citing official sources, the news agency has reported that the Government of India has canceled the licenses of 18 pharma companies for manufacturing spurious drugs following the inspection of 76 companies in 20 states by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI). It has been learned that major action is being taken by the government on the pharma companies across the country involved in the manufacture of spurious medicines. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has also issued show cause notices to 26 pharma companies. It is being told that this campaign of DCGI is being run for about 15 days.
