In a statement, the ASDMA said, there is a panic situation among the population of western Assam, linking the rising water level and the floods to the release of water from the Kurichhu dam. However, it is important to understand that the flood situation in western Assam is not only due to the release of water from the dam but also the result of incessant rains in both Bhutan and the upper catchment area of Assam.

The Disaster Management Authority further said that the Royal Government of Bhutan has issued a weather advisory on Tuesday stating that light to moderate rain is likely to occur in isolated areas of Bhutan over the next two-three days, potentially leading to landslides. The water level in Brahmaputra and its tributaries may increase.

It is advised that all residents living in the riverine areas of Assam should be prepared with emergency kit and avoid venturing into the rising water during this period, the statement said. Also, people are urged to refrain from activities like fishing, collecting firewood, swimming or river crossing unnecessarily on these days.
