Pointsman of Western Railway killed in shunting accident

Mumbai (IANS) | A freak accident took place during shunting of wagons at Carriage Repair Workshop, Lower Parel, Mumbai of Western Railway. A senior pointsman was killed in the accident. An official gave this information on Friday. The incident took place on Thursday night around 11.10 pm. Senior pointsman, 44-year-old Qasim Shaikh was injured and died during the work of wagon shunting.

He was negligent during the shunting operation and was killed, said an official after police and rescue teams reached the spot.

The 155-year-old Carriage Repair Workshop undertakes periodic overhauling of passenger mainline coaches, and also manufactures wheel sets for various locomotives.
