Extortion from Ranger, BJP leader’s son arrested

Surajpur. A high profile case of money extortion has come to the fore, in which Balrampur Forest Ranger was asked for 50 thousand rupees over the phone in the name of a Congress leader. On receiving the complaint, the police arrested an accused on Monday and sent him to jail. The second accused in the case is being traced.

Ranger of Surajpur’s Pratappur is posted in Balrampur. Abhishek Gupta, son of BJP Balrampur Mandal President Mahendra Gupta and his friend Umesh Gupta, claiming themselves to be Congress leaders, demanded Rs 50,000 from the ranger. When the ranger refused to give the money, the accused Abhishek Gupta and Umesh Gupta reached the ranger’s house. The accused abused and assaulted the ranger. The ranger lodged a complaint about this at the Pratappur police station, after which the police arrested Abhishek Gupta and sent him to jail. There she is looking for Umesh Gupta. According to Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Alesela, both the accused have extorted money from many big officers in the past as well.
