CM Dhami takes major action regarding poor roads in Uttarakhand; to conduct surprise inspections himself.

Dehradun. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is now going to enter the field himself to repair the roads damaged during monsoon in Uttarakhand and check the quality of construction works. The Chief Minister can reach any district of the state without prior notice and conduct a surprise inspection of the condition of the roads. If during the inspection the road is found to be defective, the repair work is incomplete or any quality in the construction is found, strict action will be taken against the concerned officials. The government has made it clear that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated in works related to the convenience of the general public and road safety.
Chief Minister himself will check the condition of roads
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that many roads in the state have been damaged due to heavy rains and natural disasters during the monsoon. Repair of these roads is included in the priorities of the government. Tourists and pilgrims along with the local people have to face problems due to bad roads especially in the hilly areas.
The Chief Minister had instructed the officials to make the damaged roads pothole free by October 15. Now the Chief Minister himself will inspect the roads to know the ground reality of how much work has been done on these instructions.
This inspection of the Chief Minister will not be limited to any one district. They can suddenly reach any part of the state and see the actual condition of the roads.
If a bad road is found then action will be taken against the officials
The state government has laid special emphasis on maintaining quality in road construction and repair works. The Chief Minister has clearly indicated that the responsibility will not end just by showing the work completed on paper. The actual condition of the road and the quality of repair should also be satisfactory.
If potholes are found on the road during inspection or the construction work is not found to be as per the prescribed standards, the accountability of the concerned departmental officers will be fixed.
The government aims to ensure that roads remain safe and usable for a long time after repair.
Instructions were given to make the roads pothole free by 15th October
Earlier, during the review meeting held at the Secretariat on September 14, Chief Minister Dhami had instructed the officials to speed up the repair of roads. He had said that the work of repair and improvement of roads damaged due to monsoon should be completed on priority basis.
He had asked the District Magistrates to regularly review the roads in their respective districts and ensure effective monitoring of the work of the concerned departments and executing agencies.
The Chief Minister had announced in the same meeting that after October 15, he himself would travel by road and conduct a surprise inspection.
Officers went out on inspection at 6 in the morning in Dehradun
Following the instructions of the Chief Minister, senior officials of the Public Works Department have also started checking the condition of the roads. On October 17, Public Works Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pandey conducted on-site inspection of major roads of Dehradun city at 6 am.
During this, he reviewed the progress of road improvement and pothole filling works. Officials were directed to complete the repair work within the stipulated time frame and maintain quality in construction.
During the inspection, the target of making the roads pothole free by October 18 was also reiterated.
Responsibility of monitoring given to District Magistrates
District Magistrates have also been given important responsibility to make the road repair campaign effective in the state. They have been instructed to identify damaged roads in their districts, review repair works and coordinate between concerned departments.
Special attention is being paid to the condition of the Public Works Department, National Highway officials and the roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
In Nainital district also, the administration has instructed the concerned officials to speed up the work of repairing damaged roads and filling potholes. The District Magistrate has clarified that the quality of work will not be compromised.

Chief Minister Dhami has said that special arrangements are being made for the convenience and safety of tourists and pilgrims coming to the state. Police have also been instructed to keep regular vigil in sensitive areas during festivals.
There will be a close watch on the quality of road construction
The main objective of this initiative of the state government is not to allow the repair of roads to be limited to a mere formality. Officials will have to ensure that pothole filling and road improvement works are as per the prescribed standards.
In a hilly state like Uttarakhand, roads are important for the daily needs of the local people along with health services, education, trade and tourism. In such a situation, it is an important responsibility of the administration to repair the bad roads on time.
