Ranchi. Police have busted the alleged prostitution going on in a hotel located on Kachhari Road in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. Late Saturday night, the police raided the hotel and arrested a total of 12 people, including three girls and nine youths. According to the police, during the raid these people were found in suspicious and objectionable circumstances. The three girls caught are said to be residents of West Bengal. Initial investigation into the case has revealed serious allegations regarding the role of the hotel owner and manager.
Police had received information about suspicious activities being conducted in the hotel located on Kachari Road. After receiving the information, the police verified the matter and then raided the hotel late at night. The sudden action created chaos among the people present in the hotel. The police investigated different rooms of the hotel and detained the people found there.
During the action, the police caught three girls and nine youths. Police have also started investigating the suspicious items and documents found from the hotel. The records of people visiting the hotel are also being scrutinized, so that it can be found out for how long the alleged prostitution was going on here and who were the people involved in it.
Preliminary investigation by the police has revealed that the three arrested girls are residents of West Bengal. It is alleged that the hotel owners and managers used to bring girls from outside to Ranchi and forced them into prostitution. However, detailed investigation of these allegations is still going on and the police will decide the role of those responsible on the basis of evidence.
While interrogating the girls, the police is trying to find out through whom they were brought to Ranchi. Whether they were called on the pretext of job or any other work or were they taken to the hotel through any other means is also being investigated. If the matter of forced prostitution is confirmed in the investigation, then the matter can also reach aspects related to human trafficking.
The police’s special focus is on the alleged role of the hotel owner and manager. It is alleged that both of them used to make arrangements to bring girls from outside and deliver them to the customers. In return, information is also being collected about the financial transactions and earnings from the alleged business.
Hotel registers, room booking records and other available documents may prove important during the investigation. The police is trying to find out whether the information about the people staying in the hotel was recorded as per the rules or not. Along with this, if the recording of CCTV cameras installed in the hotel is available, it can also be examined.
The police are also separately investigating the role of the nine youths arrested in this case. For what purpose they had reached the hotel, with whom they came in contact and through whom the rooms were made available, answers to these questions are being gathered. On the basis of information received from the inquiry, efforts are being made to find out the entire arrangement of the alleged network.
The condition of the girls caught in this action is also being looked at sensitively. As preliminary information suggests they were forced into prostitution, police will have to determine whether they are accused in a crime or victims of alleged exploitation. Their legal position will become clear only after detailed inquiry and investigation.
After the connection of West Bengal has come to light in the case, the police is also trying to find out whether any organized network had a role in taking the girls to Ranchi or not. If the role of any agent or middleman comes to light then the scope of investigation may extend to other states.
Since the hotel is located in the Kachhari Road area of the city, it is also a matter of investigation whether suspicious activities were going on there for a long time or this alleged business had started recently. Information can also be collected from the people and employees who came to the hotel earlier. Police are trying to find out whether other hotel staff were aware of this activity or not.
In cases of prostitution, when an allegation comes to light that a person has been forced into this work against his will, then the matter is not limited to immoral trade only. It also examines aspects of human trafficking, forced exploitation and other related crimes. In this case of Ranchi also, the police is confirming the facts found in the initial investigation.
Police are also investigating what medium was used to call customers in the hotel. In case of contact through mobile phones, social media, online messaging or intermediaries, the related digital records may be important for investigation. Further action will be taken on the basis of the statements and other evidence of the arrested people.
At present, the police have arrested a total of 12 people after raiding the hotel. In this case, allegations have come to light against the hotel owner and manager of forcibly bringing girls from outside and forcing them into prostitution. These allegations will be confirmed after detailed investigation by the police.
Ranchi Police is now busy in uncovering the entire link of this alleged network. The way the arrangements were conducted from bringing the girls from West Bengal to Ranchi, their stay in the hotel and contact with the customers is being investigated. The scope of action may increase if the role of more people comes to light in the case.
