Patna : The administration in Patna, the capital of Bihar, has intensified its action against alleged encroachments on government land along the banks of the Ganges River. As part of the process to clear illegal occupations from the riverbank, a team conducted a land survey and issued notices to 193 individuals. The administration is now preparing for further action following a review of the records.
According to reports, complaints regarding illegal construction and encroachment on government land at several locations along the Ganges had surfaced. Subsequently, a team comprising district administration officials and representatives from relevant departments visited the sites to assess the situation on the ground. During the survey, land records and maps were cross-verified with the actual site conditions.
The administration has issued notices requiring the concerned individuals to submit documents proving land ownership and the legality of the constructions. If the investigation confirms that the occupation is illegal, action to remove the encroachment will be taken in accordance with the rules.
Officials state that the anti-encroachment drive along the Ganges is being conducted with a focus on environmental conservation, maintaining water flow, and ensuring safety. Illegal constructions in the river zone can increase risks during floods and disrupt the natural flow of the Ganges.
Local residents argue that the administration should conduct an impartial review of the documents and the circumstances of all affected families before taking action. Meanwhile, the administration has clarified that action will be taken only against illegal encroachments and that the entire process will adhere to established regulations.
Future strategy will be determined based on the survey report and the responses to the notices. If illegal encroachment is confirmed, a large-scale anti-encroachment drive along the Ganges banks may be launched in the coming days.
